What Margin provides
Structured training, matched to what you own.
Margin is AI-powered strength and conditioning software for adults who intend to stay physically capable for decades. You tell it what equipment you own, what movements you have ruled out, and how you prefer to train. It builds a structured six-week program from that input, checks it against an internal programming framework drawn from published exercise science, and validates every session before you see it.
Five sessions per week, two modalities
Three strength days work compound movement patterns — squat, hinge, press, pull. Two conditioning days use the modality you configured: stationary bike or running. Each session is assigned to a specific adaptation target before it reaches you.
Equipment drives the program, not the other way around
Minimum setup: dumbbells and a pull-up bar. If you have a barbell, barbell movements appear. If you don't, dumbbell substitutions target the same patterns. The program never prescribes a movement your setup cannot deliver. When your equipment changes, the program changes with it.
Validation before every session
Every session passes a validation check: equipment availability confirmed, load assignments within established progression bounds, session structure meeting minimum quality criteria. A session that fails validation does not leave the queue. You train knowing the program was checked.
Cycles that run indefinitely
When six weeks are done, a new cycle generates from your training history. There is no end date, no transformation deadline, no reset. Margin is built for the person who is not trying to be done.
The core idea
Life has a minimum physical demand. Your capacity should be well above it.
Muscle mass declines with age by default, at roughly 3–8% per decade beginning in the fourth decade of life, with the rate accelerating after 60 (Cruz-Jentoft et al., 2019, Age and Ageing). Force production falls with it. Aerobic capacity follows the same trajectory. The direction does not vary between individuals; what varies is whether or not someone is training to slow it.
The consequence is that the gap between what you can do and what life asks of you — the margin — narrows over time by default. Carrying something heavy. Recovering from illness or injury. Keeping up with physical tasks that were unremarkable at 35. The narrower the margin, the more those demands eat into your reserve. When the margin disappears entirely, those demands become limits.
Progressive resistance training, applied consistently over years, attenuates the decline. This finding is not disputed. What is difficult is the execution: staying consistent with a program that adapts as your body, equipment, and schedule change. Most adults who would benefit either do nothing structured, or follow a static plan until it stops working and then stop. Margin is designed to remove that second failure mode.
The goal of training, as Margin understands it, is not a specific physique, a race time, or a number on a scale. It is the preservation of a gap — between what your body can do and what everyday life asks of it. That gap is your margin. Training builds it. Consistency preserves it.
See how Margin worksWhat the evidence shows
A working product, a documented framework, and research that supports the approach.
Margin is a working application. The programming framework has named research sources. The validation runs on every session. Here is what we can point to, and what we deliberately do not claim.
What we can demonstrate
- A six-week program built around the SAID principle and established periodization
- Exercise substitutions driven by your equipment configuration, targeting the same patterns
- Automated session validation before delivery
- Session logging and repeatable cycle generation from history
- Educational content citing the underlying research directly
What we do not claim
- Guaranteed individual outcomes — results follow from consistent work
- That population-level research findings extend to individual predictions
- A longer life, a specific physique, or a transformation endpoint
- Coaching, nutritional guidance, or medical advice
Why Margin
No other platform combines all four.
Other tools address parts of this problem. Margin is the only one built across all four physical capacities that determine long-term capability — with a programming framework that validates every program before it reaches you.
Multi-modal training
Strength, endurance, stability, and mobility — not just one. Life requires all four, and each declines on its own timeline. Margin programs across all of them in every cycle.
Evidence-based doctrine, validated before delivery
Margin does not generate workouts from a prompt. An internal framework drawn from published exercise science shapes every decision, and every program is validated before you ever see it.
Built for longevity, not a season
Margin is for adults who want to stay physically capable for decades. The goal is not a race, a competition, or a transformation endpoint — it is the long-term preservation of physical capacity as you age.
Works with the equipment you own
Dumbbells and a pull-up bar. A barbell setup. Anything in between. Margin builds your program around what you actually have — no equipment upgrade required to start.
The alternatives
Where other tools fall short.
Strength-only apps build one capacity and ignore the rest. Endurance, stability, and mobility decline first and limit independence most as you age — a program that skips them is training for the gym, not for life.
Sport-specific apps optimize for competition performance, not everyday capability. They peak you for a race or a season — not for the next forty years of living in a capable body.
Generic AI workout generators produce sessions from prompts with no underlying programming doctrine and no validation. You get a workout — you do not know whether it is progressive, appropriate, or consistent with your history.
Coach-in-app solutions bring human programming judgment at $150–$200 per month. That is the right quality comparison. For most adults who intend to train for decades, it is not a sustainable long-term commitment.
Structured, evidence-based programming that fits your equipment and your limitations. $9.99/month or $99/year.
